Independence Day

Here it is...another 4th of July come and gone. We didn't have any plans until the Thursday night when my mom called. So, we went out to my parent's house for a BBQ with Mom and Dad, Richard, and Lori's kids. (Lori had to work.) It was very mellow, which was nice. We even had birthday cake for Chase since we had at least some of the family together.

At around 9:00 we decided it was time to head out. We spend the "firework time" at Eagle Island State Park. It's a little swimming park with a beach, playground, and large water slide, and plenty of grass to relax. We parked in the field and waited for dark. The kids had never been out to see the big fireworks that they could remember, so we knew this would be fun for them. Prior to our fireworks beginning, we could see other shows going off in the distance. We hoisted the kids up on the car, and Chase on my shoulders, while they watched.

I think they thought that was the show because they were so excited to see them. Chase kept saying, "Wow" everytime one exploded in the air. They were at least 10-20 miles away. Once ours began, they really got a show! We were practically right underneath them. Chase squeezed his blanket the whole time, and eventually fell asleep until the finale. They got over at 11:00, and it was 11:45 before we got out of the field because of the traffic, but it was a fabulous show! I would totally go back!
